Peter John Joseph - Hobart
22 November 2011
Fr Peter John Joseph (Hiep Tien Do) was born in Phu Pho, North Vietnam, on the 3rd December 1939 and ordained a priest in Saigon on 15th June 1975. He eventually arrived in Australia and in 1987 came to Tasmania, where he worked amongst the small Vietnamese community in Hobart, living at Lutana as a resident priest until 2006. He returned to Sydney and in recent years he was receiving treatment for cancer. He died on the 22nd November 2011 following treatment earlier that day at the Braeside Hospital at Fairfield for his illness and had been cared for by Fr Paul Van Chi Chu at Revesby.
His funeral took place on the 25th November and Peter was buried at the Rookwood Cemetery, in the Vietnamese Lawn Section, alongside many of his fellow Vietnamese, who like him had made the journey to Australia for a new life. He was just 71 years of age and may he rest now in peace.
