John Murphy - Melbourne

Monsignor John J. Murphy, former Director of the Australian Catholic Migrant and Refugee Office died on Monday, November 14, 2011.

In 1969 he was appointed Director of the Catholic Immigration Office of the Archdiocese of Melbourne, where he served until 1992. He then served at St Patrick ’s Parish in Mentone, and after a few years there was appointed National Director of the Australian Catholic Migrant and Refugee Office, July 1 1995, by the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference, where he served until the end of 2008. John was awarded the Order of Australia medal in 1994 for his work for migrants and refugees. May he rest in peace.
