Eamon Leonard - Lismore

Father Eamon Philip Leonard, a senior Priest of the Lismore Diocese, died at Kingscliff on Monday 15th. June 2009 aged 86. He was in the 61st year of Priesthood and was living in retirement at Kingscliff where he had been Parish Priest from 1960 until 1971. Father Eamon was born in Ballina on the 22nd September 1922 and received his early schooling there, taught by the Presentation Sisters. His secondary schooling was at St. John's College, Woodlawn and from there, entered St. Columba's College Springwood to commence studies for the Priesthood. He studied Theology at St. Patrick's College Manly and from there was ordained to the Priesthood by Bishop Farrelly in St. Carthage's Cathedral on 30th March 1947. He served as Assistant Priest in Coraki, Murwillumbah, Casino, Kyogle, Tweed Heads and Lismore. He spent a brief time as Locum Tenens in Mallanganee and Mullumbimby. He was appointed Priest in Charge of the Parish of Kingscliff from the 25th November 1960 until the 3rd December 1971. In 1971 he was appointed Parish Priest of South Lismore and Parish Priest of South Murwillumbah on the 5th July 1973. That appointment concluded on the 13th December 1997 when he retired to Kingscliff.
